Dear David,
Hello and Happy November!!!
Well, I hate to say it but winter has definitely arrived
in some parts of Canada.
That was the scene that welcomed me when I arrived into
Calgary on October 14th. Yes, I said
October 14th!!! It
was already snowing! And it was cold too - they were even
de-icing the planes.
But there is always a silver lining and the good news is
that all the snow and cold weather is a fantastic
incentive to get your clients to start booking their
winter escapes. There is no better cure to a brutal
Canadian winter than a warm and sunny Mexican holiday.
Don't you agree???
So I've been crazy busy (what else is new?) and last week
was the PURO MEXICO roadshow sponsored by Air Canada
Vacations. It was a whirlwind itinerary (Cranbrook,
Terrace, Vancouver, Richmond, and Kelowna), but it was
lots of fun with a great group of colleagues.
(The PURO MEXICO team

Carlos from Palace Resorts, Jonathan from Karisma,

Hotel Marina El Cid Beach & Spa Resort
What's New?
There is never a dull moment at El Cid Resorts. Just look
at all the new changes and news at El Cid Resort's gorgeous
property in the Mayan Riviera...
| The hotel opened a wedding showroom located in the main
lobby of the hotel. Couples can get inspired while looking
at wedding set ups, wedding pictures, menus and have a chat
with our professional wedding coordinator. Many of our
guests already decided to get married during their next stay
and some even decided to get married on the spot while here
on vacation! |
| Guests can also book romantic dinners on the beach here
($), this is a perfect way to treat your partner to
something very romantic and exclusive outside of the regular
all inclusive program. |
| Our MegaPass added value that was upgraded from a $300
to a $600 USD value this year ( www.elcid.com/values )
includes some coupons with discounts for those romantic
private dinners on the beach as well. |
| El Alcazar restaurant had its menu redone and now
features a daily menu. (7 day rotating menu). The Arrecife
restaurant continues to offer Mexican a la Carte dinners and
the menu was also recently refreshed with some new authentic
Mexican cuisine. |
| The hotel now features wireless internet in all
guestrooms and all public areas. This service is being
surcharged. |
| El Cocay Spa recently launched a new program especially
for kids between 6-12 years that includes manicure;
pedicure; facial treatments; 40 minute full body massages;
chocolate, nutella or yoghurt wrap treatments. Massage
therapists are always female, with lots of patience and take
out some extra time to pamper the children in a very
delicate way. Very popular is the mother / daughter
treatment. |
| We launched some new activities at the kids club that
include watching movies out in the open air on giant screens
and we also organize Wii tournaments on the same giant
screens. |
| Future projects include an expansion of our kids club
that will include a buffet area with pizzas, ice creams, and
popcorn. Also we just ordered portable mini bathtubs that
can be placed in the guestroom of families with babies. |
| A new VIP-only treatment program in addition to the
Platinum services will include a coffee machine in the room
to prepare delicious cappuccinos, espressos, mochaccinos etc
and also an alarm clock / I-dock (for an I-pod or I-phone). |
| In November we will renovate our Distintivo H
certification. Employees continue to be trained to make sure
we work with the highest safety and hygiene standards. |
| Marina El Cid teamed up with Suncountry Vacations and
Kent Hrbek outdoors for a special TV segment that will be
featured in Oct / Nov on Fox 09, the National Fishing
Network and all other affiliates that carry the Kent Hrbek
outdoors program throughout USA and Canada. |
| Later this Month Suncountry and Marina El Cid will team
up again for yet another TV shoot and we will be featured
somewhere in Oct / Nov as well on "On the Road with Jason
Davis." This show airs on the ABC affiliate KSTP in
Minnesota on Saturday night and repeats on KSTC on Sunday. |
| Each Feb 14 we organize "La regatta de la Amistad" where
lovers and friends can team up to sail and have fun together
and participate in a regatta departing from Marina El Cid.
In 2010 we will carry on this tradition. |
| The El Cid Foundation has been very active in the Puerto
Morelos local community: |
| The hotel sponsored new articles and medication for
local health care centers. |
| Library project: during summer school the hotel
sponsored lunches for the local kids of Puerto Morelos
|
| The hotel has a health care program in place for
employees: free vaccinations and medical check-ups are
available to all employees.
|
|
Ecological projects: |
| The hotel takes part of the Turtle preservation
program. Only one in every thousand turtles of the local "Caguama"
species that are born makes it to an adult age so they can
use a little help! We received 2,307 eggs that were placed
in nests and protected. We plan to liberate over 1,000
turtles. So far over 200 turtles have arleady been born,
taken care of and were liberated when they were strong and
big enough to survive on their own. |
| This year we planted 10,000 new plants in the
botanical garden located in the mangrove in front of the
hotel. All plants are typical plants of this region. |
| In that same area we created a fenced and protected
area where we help to conserve the regional fauna: birds,
turtles, crocodiles. |
| We produce our own bottled water through our internal
osmosis plant.
|
| By changing the type of products, paper towels and
toilet paper we use we are saving trees each year. |
| Recycle program is in place: we separate cardboard /
paper, plastic and pads and we also work with a company
that picks up chemical waste like light bulbs, batteries,
oils etc. |

Happy Howl-oween!
Dixie Update
As many of you know, it's a tradition that every year Dixie
gets dressed up for Halloween and we go out on travel agency
sales calls together. It's always a lot of fun.
In
past years Dixie has dressed as a
princess to promote the
opening of THE ROYAL in Cancun, she dressed as a
bride to spread the
word about destination weddings, and last year she was a
lobster to promote the
fine dining options at the resorts.
Well, this year Halloween fell on a Saturday so Dixie got the
day off from doing sales calls. Instead she spent the
day/evening at her Grandma and Grandpa's house in Kamloops and
helped hand out candy to the trick or treaters.
Hope you had a happy and safe
Halloween!!!
