How are
you doing?? Summer weather is finally here - WooHoo!!!
Now that it's nice out, what are your plans for the
summer? Any fun road-trips?
As you
know I'm on the road a lot with my job, and one quirky
thing that I've noticed on my travels is that a lot
of towns have "The World's Largest...(fill in the
blank)". For example, last week we were driving
between Saskatoon and Regina for the Sunwing shows
and we stopped in Davidson where we noticed their
random giant coffee pot and mug.
Ummm..OK.
I know
Vegreville has the world's largest Psyanka (Easter
Egg), Moose Jaw has the giant Moose (makes sense),
somewhere in Northern Alberta I remember seeing the
world's largest perogy (on a fork), Kitimat has a huge
snowflake, and we can't forget the World's largest
Pinto Bean between Medicine Hat and Lethbridge. Even
the town we live in, New Westminster, BC (suburb of
Vancouver) has the World's Largest Tin Soldier.
I'm not really sure what
the significance of the tin soldier is.
Do you
remember the episode of Corner Gas when they wanted
to build the
big dirty hoe in Dog River to increase tourism? :)

Carnival Cruises Returns to Mazatlan
|
Mazatlán, Mexico's
"Colonial City on the Beach," announced that Carnival
Cruise Lines will resume service to the destination
with year-round cruises departing out of Los Angeles.
The seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise, which will
begin sailing in April 2015, will include additional
stops in Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta. With
trips planned on the ship Carnival Miracle, 2,124
passengers and 934 onboard crew members will arrive in
Mazatlán with each stop.
"The inclusion of
Mazatlán, or the 'Pearl of the Pacific,' in major
cruise line offerings is a major achievement for the
destination and we are thrilled to have Carnival
back," said Frank Cordova, Secretary of Tourism for
the region. "The city has taken great strides to
improve its general infrastructure and the available
amenities for cruise passengers, greatly enhancing its
allure as an ideal travel destination. We welcome
cruise travelers to experience Mazatlán's stunning
beaches, rich colonial history and world-class
gastronomy."
In addition to Carnival, four major cruise
lineseither currently service or plan to service the
destination. Holland America Line, Norwegian Cruise
Line and Azamara Club Cruisesresumed calls to
Mazatlán's port in 2013. Princess Cruisesrecently
announced its return beginning in fall 2014, with
additional trips beginning in 2015 as part of the
50th Anniversary celebration of the cruise line's
first voyage to Mexico.
It is expected that calls to Mazatlán's port will
bring 200,000 tourists in the 2014-2015 cruise season.
