After 17 ½ years of being a
Sales Manager/BDM, and having my own
multi-line travel marketing firm for
12 years, it is time to hang up my
professional hat and retire. I have
been able to share some amazing
accounts with you and I appreciate
all of your support and the trust
you placed me.
I’ve also had some wonderful team
members as part of DETM over the
years. Most recently I had the
honour of working with
Sonia Machado
in Calgary and
Shelley Rossen
in the GTA. When you run into these
2 travel professionals in the
future, know that they are the best!

|
One of my accounts that has been
with me during my entire travel
industry journey is
El Cid Resorts. I
will always value the friendships I
established with my El Cid
colleagues, and the love I now have
for Mazatlan, where El Cid's home
is.
I’ll leave you with one musical wish
– Let’s Face the Music and Dance!

I will miss this fun
industry, but am really looking
forward to continuing our big
adventures during our
Go-Go
retirement years. I’ve been
preparing for retirement all of my
professional career, and here are a
few things I’ve learned from other
retirees and retirement planning
professionals.
First, every good retirement plan
has a good understanding of 4
things:
1. Expenses
(necessities and Go-Go travel
budgets), 2. Incomes (CPP,
OAS, pensions, etc.), 3.
Investment resources (RRSP,
TFSA, Non-Reg, cash savings, etc.)
and 4. Assets (properties,
life insurance policies,
inheritances, etc.).
Then there is the necessity
to understand things like RRIF
withdrawal minimums, withholding
rules, CPP sharing, Canada pension
income sharing, OAS clawback, and
more.
|
|
For those of you a bit further from
your own retirement, there are 3
general phases of retirement. The
Go-Go
years are the first 5 or 10 years of
retirement while you have the health
and mobility to travel and check off
those bucket list
adventures. Obviously, Go-Go years
require more funds to accomplish
those big trips and adventures. As
travel advisors, I assume you know
and assist many people in their Go-Go
phase fulfilling their bucket-list
adventures.
|
|
The next phase of retirement is our
Slow-Go
years. This is the next 5 or 10
years, where you may still travel,
but probably more gently and
possibly closer to home. Your
professional travel expertise is
really needed for these slower
travelers, possibly with additional
needs.
The final phase of retirement is our
No-Go
years, where we aren’t easily able
to travel, and possibly need
additional care to remain
comfortable and just enjoy our
memories of previous great
adventures.
